Today Maya and Bernhard, friends of my mother-in-law’s in Switzerland who are travelling through Australia, popped in for a surprise visit at the dolphin centre. We had a good time on the eco cruise and went to MASH for a delicious Aussie burger afterwards. The dolphins played along as well and showed up in great numbers. On the second picture you see one of our dolphins playing seaweed hockey: they put seaweed on their dorsal fins, chase each other and throw the seaweed around… The last picture shows Nicky, whose entire dorsal fin is missing as the result of a near- fatal shark attack. Great whites often go for dolphin calfs and the dolphin mothers suffer terrible injuries when they try to fend off the attack – often in vain, as in this case. Nicky’s calf hasn’t been seen since.
