Big Nick

30 Oct

Today it was sheer madness. We had nine dolphins in at one point and we spent one and a half hours thigh- deep in the freezing cold ocean. However, you quickly forget about the cold when you see all these dolphins. The one in the pictures is one of my favourites, because it is so easily recognizable. It is a female dolphin called Big Nick because of that distinctive big nick in her fin.

Wow this is absolutely incredible – do all females have that nick? or is this one just special?

Most dolphins have nicks or theeth marks on their fins. They are the result of too much romance during mating or are the results of visvious battles in the case of the males.
